Pierce County firefighters say downloading free Pulse Point app can save lives

Firefighters in Pierce County have joined Pulse Point Respond, an app that notifies people who know CPR of medical emergencies happening within a quarter-mile radius. Altogether, 19 agencies in Pierce County are using the app and encouraging people who know CPR to download it. To promote the app, first responders staged a mock emergency in South Hill Mall in Puyallup to show how it works.

Kennewick house fire sparks after grease fire in kitchen

Everyone got out of a Kennewick home safely after a stove fire started to spread inside. Around 3:37 p.m. Tuesday, firefighters were called to 420 Dawes St. near Fourth Avenue. When they arrived, smoke was seen from the outside. Crews were able to get inside and control the fire in under five minutes.

Arlington Fire Department Santa Run will be Dec. 6-15

Santa will be riding one of Arlington’s fire engines out across the community as the Santa Run returns for it’s 30th year from Dec. 6 to Dec. 15. For 10 nights volunteers from the Arlington Fire Department and the city of Arlington will collect food and bring Santa around to meet local families. The Santa Run begins at 5:30 p.

Update: Driver in hit-and-run of Yakima firefighter turns himself in

The driver accused of hitting a Yakima firefighter has turned himself into police. 40-year-old Hilario Rioz Altamirano of Grandview allegedly hit 62-year-old Terry Carter, a firefighter with Yakima County Fire District #5. It happened on Sunday morning, while firefighters were responding to a rollover crash on I-82 near Granger.

Spokane Valley Fire quickly extinguish home fire

Spokane Valley Fire Department responded to a house fire on the 700 block of N Steen on Monday afternoon. According to SVFD, bystanders across the street called 911 to report a fire in the home, after seeing what they described as a fully involved house. A resident attempted to use two fire extinguishers and was spraying a garden hose when crews arrived.
