Washington Public Lands Commissioner stops in Kennewick to discuss wildfire fund proposal

A couple days after proposing a first-of-its-kind statewide wildfire fund, Washington's Commissioner of Public Lands made a stop in Kennewick on Wednesday to tour a local fire station and discuss the proposal. Commissioner Hilary Franz announced the proposal in Seattle on Monday to create the Wildfire Prevention and Preparedness Account.

Fireboat responsible for oil spill in Seattle's Elliott Bay, officials say

VIDEO: Crews worked to clean up an oil spill Wednesday morning in Elliott Bay near the Seattle Waterfront. At about 8 a.m., crews at Fire Station 5 found a small leak of waste oil from Fireboat Leschi, Seattle fire officials said. According to the U.S. Coast Guard, several gallons were spilled. Crews immediately secured the leak and several agencies responded.

Update: Rash Of Suspicious Haystack Fires In Central Washington Leaves Major Export Up In Smoke

A blazing haystack puts out a ton of heat and light, and smells like a big cigar. Early Saturday morning, Nov. 30, in Washington’s Tri-Cities region, a haystack was set alight north of Pasco in Franklin County. The fire was called in by an air traffic controller at the Tri-Cities airport in Pasco who could see it from miles away.

Clallam County Fire District 3 plans staff additions in 2020

Next year is all about adding people to help with Clallam County Fire District 3’s increasing call load. Leaders with the Sequim area fire department look to add four more line staff in 2020 bringing the total of firefighters/EMTs or paramedics from 34 at the start of 2019 to 39 next year. Fire commissioners authorized two new firefighters, with one hired so far and another three anticipated to be hired in 2020, District 3 Fire Chief Ben Andrews said.
