Longview Fire Department helps teen with cancer check off bucket list item

A recent high school graduate in Longview is facing a terrible diagnosis, but she’s using the time she has left to knock out a bucket list. She crossed off one item Saturday night at the Longview Holiday Parade. The Longview Fire Department learned about Kylee Jacobson’s cancer diagnosis while reading the newspaper Saturday morning.

Fire at shed, camper in Prosser likely caused by space heater, homeowner says

Authorities say a fire engulfed a camper and unattached shed Sunday morning in Prosser. Benton County sheriff's deputies and firefighters responded about 10:30 a.m. to reports of a structure fire in the 12500 block of North Missimer Road. Deputies say the two structures were totally engulfed within minutes, but left the main residence undamaged, No one was injured in the fire.

Spokane County firefighters and deputies team up to collect toys in memory of teens killed in 2013 crash

Donated toys were piling up on Saturday as Spokane County Fire District #8 and the Spokane County Swat Team were collecting toys in the memory of Josie Freier and McKenzie Mott, who were killed in the 2013 Ponderosa jump crash. Every year since the loss of his daughter, Rick Freier has collected Toys for Tots in memory of his daughter, Joise.

Woman arrested for reckless burning of RV trailer porch in East Kennewick

A woman was arrested Friday for setting a fire on her RV's trailer porch. It happened on the 1400 block of South Date Street in East Kennewick. The Benton County Sheriff's Office says when firefighters arrived, they found the wooden front porch on fire and a woman inside who refused to get out. 35-year-old Terra Redmond eventually came out unharmed and the fire was put out.

Procession held for Walla Walla County firefighter who died in crash

A procession was held for a 23-year-old Walla Walla County firefighter who died in a car crash last month. Ashton Farley was found unconscious with his car on its side in ditch along Harvey Shaw Road west of Prescott on Nov. 21. A passing driver saw the vehicle, pulled over and called police to report the crash at about 1:25 a.
