Woman dies in early Thursday morning house fire near Soap Lake

A woman died in an early Thursday morning house fire near Soap Lake. According to the Grant County Sheriff's Office, emergency responders were called to 4777 Rd. 19-Northeast at about 12:20 a.m. for a house fire. One of the occupants, Samuel Engelhardt, was outside chopping wood when he noticed the double-wide manufactured home was ablaze.

Gas thief targets Spokane Valley fire station

VIDEO: When someone calls for help -- first responders drop everything and race to the emergency. A thief in Spokane Valley took advantage of a medical call early Wednesday morning and siphoned gas from the personal vehicle of at least one crew member at the Evergreen Fire Station at 12th Avenue and S Evergreen Road.

Pullman fire chief earns special designation

Pullman Fire Chief Mike Heston has qualified to receive the designation of Chief Fire Officer - one of only 1,344 CFOs worldwide. According to The Center for Public Safety Excellence, the designation program is voluntary and individuals are recognized for excellence in experience, education, professional development, professional contributions, association membership, community involvement and technical competence.
